Technique

The Bellerose Technique is the study of the relationship between human behavior and personality, and kinestetic awareness in personal space and three dimensional space. The objective is to awaken the practitioner to the deep levels of emotional presence and influence that we are made of in a way that can profoundly deepen your levels of understanding and expression of your art form.

This technique does not force you into a single method and/or approach, but teaches you the ability to see behind the many techniques and approaches out there, and understand how their principles apply.

“It is time for our art form to evolve. The commonly held notions regarding how our human minds and bodys work is being redefined. The latest discoveries in biology and physics are forcing us to re-evaluate our definitions and assumptions of what we are made of and why we do what we do. There are things that run much deeper in our existence that drive us as human beings. Acting, dancing and the other arts are an exploration of the human condition, and its presentation is communication of the unique subjective discoveries that ring true and universal to all.

Several studies have shown that the brain wave activity measured during performance of a task is the same as when you imagine doing that task. Your brain doesn’t know the difference between what is imagined, and what is real. That’s why we are able to illicit behavioral and emotional responses to imagined circumstances. In fact, our communication comes from our perceptions and imagination, not from reality itself.

There is also the famous study that found only 7% of communication is in words and their content, followed by voice tone at 38% and body language at 55%. Though insights into the circumstances help us interpret how to deliver the content, it is limited to the level of our talent, technique, and our endowed faculties. But there are deeper levels beyond technique and talent that have barely been explored.

The Bellerose Technique shows how to develop your powers of observation, empathy and intimacy, so when you study a particular style of movement or behavior, you can much more easily assimilate that into yourself.

There are underlying principles of how our bodies move. In fact, if you look at the design of the skeleton, and the rest of the human body, it is a miracle of engineering, and science has given us great insight into many of the uses of its faculties, but we have barely scratched the surface of its potential. There are non-superfluous principles of movement basic to the human body that preceed any movement technique that every performing artist must master. It is from there that the more abstract and expressive human faculties become influential and form our uniqueness.

“Once one understands the basics of how the human condition and human emotions affect behavior, it is a simple step to understanding what you create and what you observe.
